We are not advocating CBD as a treatment but still want to provide our community with an overview of where we currently stand when it comes to CBD oil for anxiety.
What We Know About CBD Oil for Anxiety
Anxiety is a complicated issue. There is usually more than one cause and anxiety can lead to other health conditions. One issue that many people suffer from along with anxiety is sleep.
In 2019, cannabis researchers decided to test the effect of CBD on human test subjects suffering from both. Patients who reported their main concern as anxiety were given a 25mg capsule of CBD every day. Those who were mostly concerned with sleeping were given their dose right before bed.
The test subjects were closely monitored over the next 3 months.
After only 2 months, the subjects began seeing promising results. Over 78% of the patients reported noticing an improvement in their anxiety and 56% said they were sleeping better.
A 2015 review concluded that "CBD has considerable potential as a treatment for multiple anxiety disorders" while confirming more research is needed. A more recent study done in 2020 evaluated 397 adults in which they reported improved quality of life after 3 weeks - some reported improved ability to perform daily functions and reduced symptoms of pain anxiety and depression. 70% reported good to excellent satisfaction with CBD. This 2019 study concluded that CBD reduced anxiety while public speaking.
All 3 studies stated research looks promising, but concluded more research is needed.
How to Take CBD Oil for Anxiety?
To understand how we can take CBD oil for anxiety, we have to use the information we have available. In the 2019 study, the researchers chose to give the subjects who experienced anxiety their dose during the day, consistently for months.
If you are interested in trying CBD oil for anxiety, we recommend modeling after experts. Take your dose during the day, right after eating breakfast or lunch, and do so consistently. Taking CBD regularly is crucial. CBD needs time to build up in the system to promote a healthy endocannabinoid system.
CBD Oil is Just One Piece
CBD has been reported to help people who suffer from anxiety and has generated some positive results in preclinical and clinical studies. We believe taking CBD oil could help alongside a more complete plan to reduce stress and anxiety.
What Else Can Be Done?
Exercising regularly, eating at least 4 cups of vegetables each week, and reflecting on what could be the root cause of anxiety could help improve your overall wellbeing. Adding CBD oil to this multifaceted approach will only give your body a better chance at success.
We need more studies like the one done in 2019 on human subjects. While the study resulted in promising results, it only observed 72 human patients. For CBD to be utilized by the masses, we need studies with thousands of people. Hopefully, we will get to this point soon but for now, we can only reference the available information regarding CBD oil for anxiety.
